HAGIWARA PROJECTSでは、8月22日(金)より10日間、「Turbulence — 夏の終わりの上映会」と題し、3名のアーティストによる映像作品を1点ずつご紹介いたします。それぞれの作家が、異なる視点から社会や自己と向き合う映像表現を展開しています。いずれも発表の機会が限られてきた作品です。この機会にぜひご高覧ください。
渡邉庸平は、2014年に制作された《Black Box》を発表します。写真や絵画、立体など多様なメディアを用い、視点の相対性から世界の認識について探求してきた渡邉は、本作においても繊細なアプローチを展開しています。男性のモノローグと、それに呼応する静謐な映像が丁寧に紡がれ、観る者は語られるストーリーに引き込まれます。日常と非日常の境界をゆるやかに漂うような、不思議な余韻を残す作品です。
張 小船は1983年中国生まれ、現在は東京と上海を拠点に活動しています。張は日々の中で感じる小さな感情や違和感を起点に、パフォーマンスやサウンド、テキスト等を通して、わたしたちが無自覚に受け入れてしまっている社会的規範や価値基準に問いを投げかけます。今回上映する《穴と不同意する》では、ドローイングをもとにした映像を用いて、現実への応答のあり方を探ります。イメージが反復されることによって社会への問いかけは鋭さを増し、見る者に強く迫ります。
近年、美術館での発表が続く地主麻衣子は、2013年に制作した《スーパー・ヤング・チリ》を上映します。「映画」という形式を意識して制作された本作は、アート業界をユーモラスに描いたコメディです。アーティストを志す里子が、有名キュレーターに自作をプレゼンしようと奮闘する様子を、コミカルかつ風刺的に描いています。今なお通じるリアルな感覚と複雑さを内包している作品です。

From August 22, HAGIWARA PROJECTS will present Turbulence — Summer’s End Screening, a ten-day program featuring one video work each by three artists. Each artist engages with society and the self from a distinct perspective, offering unique approaches to moving image.
Yohei Watanabe will present Black Box (2014). Working across photography, painting, sculpture, and other media, Watanabe has long explored our perception of the world through the relativity of viewpoint. In this work, he employs a similarly nuanced approach: a male voice-over unfolds in quiet dialogue with serene, contemplative imagery. The viewer is gradually drawn into the narrative, left with a lingering, enigmatic resonance that seems to drift between the boundaries of the everyday and the extraordinary.
Born in China in 1983, Boat Zhang lives and works in Tokyo and Shanghai. Beginning with the subtle emotions and dissonances of daily life, Zhang uses performance, sound, and text to question the social norms and value systems we unconsciously accept. In Disagree with the Hole, Zhang explores possible ways of responding to reality through a video work based on drawing. The repeated looping of images sharpens the work’s critical edge, confronting the viewer with a pointed challenge to the structures of society.
Maiko Jinushi, whose work has been featured increasingly in museum exhibitions in recent years, will screen Super Young Chili (2013). Consciously adopting the format of “film,” this black comedy tried humorously portrays the art world. The story follows Satoko, an aspiring artist, as she struggles to present her work to a renowned curator. Blending wit with satire, the work captures a sense of realism and complexity that remains strikingly relevant today.
Yohei Watanabe
